Dermal injectables and fillers are becoming a common treatment option to safely and effectively smooth wrinkles and fine lines and slow or reverse the effects of aging. With the modern advancements in their formulations, there is minimal risk of adverse reactions or serious complications.
Since each type has a specific condition for which it is best suited, it is important to select the best one to achieve the best results. Of the injectables available, the likely most popular one is not a filler and does little to increase volume. With the exception of dermal implants, they also only bring temporary results, and treatments need to be repeated to keep the same appearance.
BOTOX® is a dermal injectable that uses a specific formulation of botulinum toxin to block the facial muscles from contracting and causing new wrinkles or lines on your face or deepening those already there. BOTOX® is also formulated with specific proteins added to it to make it more effective at a wider variety of aesthetic conditions.
Xeomin®, on the other hand, while still a formulation of the same botulinum toxin, does not have any of the added proteins that BOTOX® does. While this can often make it less expensive to produce and purchase, it may not be as effective on as many aesthetic conditions as BOTOX®. When used properly, however, it is nearly as effective as BOTOX®.
While the added proteins and formulation of BOTOX® make it more useful for a broader range of treatments, it has also been found to lose effectiveness over long-term use, requiring more amounts to be used with subsequent treatments. Although rare, this can be a deciding factor between the two.
